I would just invite you all over for sweet tea and borscht, but since you aren't here...
An interesting sunset.
My closet-like area.
The kitchen.
The kitchen.
The kitchen.
Where we keep our trash...
The living room. Our coffee table is a kids' classroom table.
The back yard.
Spots. The more we feed him the less he growls at us. Eventually, we will be come friends.

Looks like all you need now is a cat :)
Wow, that brings back memories! So they have dogs on Diomede? They were illegal on St. Paul due to the seal rookeries.
Alaska looks so imposing, like the next sea wave is going to slam it onto your doorstep.
I really like your place, Meredith -- with all the natural wood. I am hoping to write about living simply in our next snail-mail newsletter. I may post what I've written on our blog, too. Living in Asia and have much fewer possessions has changed me. I can see that you're traveling light through life too. It's good.
...having...
Susan -- yes, dogs are allowed here. We don't have any seal rookeries. We haven't seen any seals yet, but we should see them anytime now. I can't wait. The dogs here have to be chained up. You can get a $50 reward if you kill a dog that is loose. I am not sure if the Diomede people have the heart to do that, so every now and then I see dogs running loose and free. For the most part they are chained up though.
Thanks, Drew & Rachel! I am trying to live simply, and it's a lot easier when there isn't a big store to buy stuff you don't need...(unless Amazon.com counts.)
Nice place! So unique! I love it! It looks like you've settled in very nicely. :-)
